About Tom Mueller
Tom Mueller is a saxophonist and vocalist active in the European Blues and Rhythm & Blues scene, moving between Blues, R&B and Boogie. His playing is defined by a powerful tone and energetic stage presence – and every now and then, he steps up to the mic as a singer too.
Tom grew up in the Black Forest region of Germany, where he started out on clarinet before switching to saxophone – inspired by a stack of big band and rock’n’roll records he found in his father’s collection. A year spent in Ontario, Canada, playing in school bands, only deepened the pull toward the stage.
He went on to study jazz saxophone in Graz and Vienna under Carl Drewo and Martin Fuß, and shared the stage early on with jazz greats like Clark Terry, Benny Bailey and Chuck Israels. Since 1997, Vienna has been home.
Tom has played leading European festivals including the Lucerne Blues Festival, Notodden Blues Festival, JazzAscona and Swinging Hannover. He has worked with Dana Gillespie, B.B. & The Blues Shacks, the Mojo Blues Band and Kai Strauss, among others, and released recordings both as a sideman and under his own name – including the album Sax First Talk Later. As part of the Norbert Schneider Band, he received the Austrian Blues Award in 2009.
